Last month, Vocal Rush won the Northwest Regional ICHSA Semi Finals in Portland and earned a spot in the Finals in New York in April to vy for honors as the top high school a capella group in the country, a title they earned last year. They also took home awards for Oustanding Soloist (Jordan Holly), Outstanding Vocal Percussion (Kyana Fanene) and Outstanding Choreography (Branden Thomas).
Last weekend, they took first place at the Los Angeles A Cappella Festival Competition, beating out four college groups and another top high school group. Kyana Fanene won the award for Best Vocal Percussionist and the group’s director, vocal faculty member Lisa Forkish, received an award for Best Arrangement for their song “Heartbeat.”
And if that weren’t enough, Vocal Rush’s EP from last year, “The Beginning” recently received three Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award nominations: “Best High School Album”, “Best High School Song” (for “Tightrope”) and “Best High School Soloist” (Sarah Vela for “Let Us Be Loving).
